Throwing Out the First Toy

With three kids, its inevitable that toys will be damaged or outgrown. However, a strict catholic upbringing has precluded me from being able to throw anything away. Just ask my parents, whose basement is packed with boxes and boxes of my stuff that I just couldn't bring myself to toss. After all, some of those notebooks from 3rd grade are only half-used. I might be able to use them again later.

Fearing a cluttered basement of my own someday, I took a positive step forward and threw out a drawing table that was on its last leg. Sure, it still kind-of worked, and yes, I could have just tucked it in the back of the closet and probably forgot about it, but I fought my conscious and tossed it away.

Now I have to go to confession.

The Ferris Wheel: A Year in Waiting

During our local end of summer carnival, Margret and I took Ava on her first Ferris wheel ride.  She had been anxiously awaiting this ride, as last year she was too short to ride. Of all the things that fleeting escape her memory, the Ferris wheel had stuck with her.

Her excitment was contagious as we boarded the contraption being operated by a man who clearly was under the influence of something.  Her excitement made me forget that I am deathly afraid of heights.  I found it someone more settling to look through the camera viewfinder...somewhat suspending the realty of the situation.

Together, we all enjoyed the skyline from the top of the Ferris wheel during Ava's first ever spin on the modern marvel.

The Upside of Driving in Southwest Florida: Waffle House

If Disney World is the jewel of America's Southern states, then the Waffle House has to be the grease on that jewel that, no matter how you try, doesn't come off. As far as Ava and Mae were concerned this introduction to diner eating couldn't have come at a better time, during the height of their waffle obsession. Ava is up to 3 a morning and Mae Mae can easily gum her way through 1-1/2. My only fear is that they won't be able to go back to Eggo's.

So You Think You Can Dance?

While I contend that everything you need to know about dancing can be learned from watching Fox television, Margret disagreed. So, tutu on waist, we sent Ava off to her first dance class today. Let's hope she doesn't make the same mistake I made, switching from Tap to Jazz, as I've regretted it my whole life.

You can see that Mae Mae was not too happy to be left out of the fun.
